Hope on a Postcard
Design of poetry anthology written by inmates from HMP Frankland
We’re pleased to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Newcastle University Professor of Creative Writing Sinéad Morrissey and Research Associate John Challis on a participatory project they’ve been running in HMP Frankland, a Category A prison outside Durham, where they’ve been facilitating writing workshops over the course of the last year or so. The aim of the project was to produce an anthology of poetry and artwork created by the prisoners, and they approached Roots & Wings to help with design and print. Having worked alongside Sinéad and John we know that Hope on a Postcard represents the culmination of a process that’s been profoundly valuable for all involved, and we hope the printed anthology stands as something both inmates and facilitators can be proud of.
