Promo Video for School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics

The Brief…

Roots & Wings was asked to produce a short promo video about why anyone thinking about studying English should choose Newcastle University School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.

And the Solution!

The 2019 English and Employability Event provided the perfect backdrop for filming – the event aims to demonstrate to second year School of English students that, far from being a one-way ticket to becoming either (a) an English Teacher or (b) the next J.K. Rowling, an English degree is a veritable Swiss army knife of high-level skills and analytical methods that can set you off down any number of chosen career paths across a range of sectors. This was perfectly illustrated at the English and Employability event at which students got to meet a host of inspirational alumni whose English degrees laid the foundations for successful careers in fields as diverse as healthcare, journalism, TV & radio, business and even law. In other words, there’s no career in which the skills that a Newcastle University English degree provides wouldn’t be useful – other than maybe particle physics, but even then you never know – and on top of all that, there’s no better city to study in than THE TOON!
